What Is a Joint Debt?

A joint debt involves entering into a financial agreement with another person, typically your partner.

A common misconception when it comes to dealing with joint debts is that you split the responsibility between you, taking on only half of the debt. This isn’t true; you are both responsible for all of the debt. If one of you, for whatever reason, does not pay the debt then you are nonetheless both expected to settle for the full balance.
